Yaz, known generically as drospirenone, is a birth control that works by altering the uterine and cervical lining, and is 99.9 percent effective at preventing pregnancy. Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals has made and distributed Yaz in the United States since it was approved by the FDA in 2001. Women who have taken Yaz have reported side effects that vary from mild to severe. Any woman thinking of taking this drug should:
• Discuss their entire medical history with their physician before using Yaz
• Be totally aware of any risks associated with taking Yaz, and recognize symptoms of serious side effects
• Seek medical attention if there are any signs or symptoms of dangerous Yaz side effects
• Recognize your legal rights, because any harmed individual with a legitimate claim may be entitled to compensation.
Yaz Side Effect: Bleeding
The hormones in Yaz alter women's menstrual cycle. At the start of usage it causes fluctuations and cause their menstrual cycles to become irregular, and may cause:
• Breakthrough bleeding
• Early or late peroids
• Longer periods
• Spotting
Within a few months, once the body has the time to adjust, these side effects could disperse and periods will once again go back to being normal.
Women who have a history of abnormal bleeding should not take Yaz, because they are at an elevated risk of developing life-threatening Yaz side effects such as liver damage, blood clots, stroke and/or pulmonary embolism.
Bleeding During Inactive Pills
There are 28 pills, in total, in a package of Yaz. Four of these pills are what's known as a placebo, where as the other 24 contain hormones. These hormones cause the uterine lining to shed, causing menstruation. The bleeding happens during the use of the inactive pills (placebos). Many women's periods fluctuate during their first intake of Yaz birth control pills. However, in following months the body will adjust itself as it becomes used to the hormone dose, and menstruation will become normal once again.
If Yaz Breakthrough Bleeding Persists
Any woman who has taken Yaz should get a through exam. Minor side effects, like breakthrough bleeding, could be an indication of very serious Yaz side effects. Women who took Yaz and experience any negative side effects should consider switching forms of birth control, but those who sustain severe Yaz side effects should look into registering a claim against Bayer HealthCare. It is important to find a defective drug attorney that is both experienced with Yaz claims and will help you.
